Tom Smith
Second Tenor

Tom Smith

Tom has been in the choir since 1990. He has been married to Evelyn for 55 years and they have two daughters, four granddaughters, one great-granddaughter and two great-grandsons.

Starting work as a maintenance fitter in the quarrying industry, Tom became maintenance foreman at ICI's Peak Dale quarry and was with ICI for 19 years. During that time he specialised in fire and security, designed a special type of mobile B.C.F. fire extinguisher and gave lectures and demonstrations on all types of fire equipment. Tom has been retired now for quite a while.

He has always been interested in singing, beginning with singing parts in school plays at his school in Lancashire and as a boy soprano in St Oswald's Church of England choir at Knott-End on Sea near Fleetwood. Tom moved to Buxton in 1950 following his army service in the RAOC and he ended his working career in the Derbyshire quarrying industry.

Tom says he is very much enjoying his singing with Tideswell Male Voice Choir.
