The choir is fortunate to have the services of Mary Cobbold MA FRCO (Chm) ARMCM as Principal Organist and Deputy Accompanist.
Mary studied the organ at St John’s Church, Buxton, under Frederick Parnell before continuing her studies at the age of 16 with Ronald Frost and Derek Cantrell at the Royal Manchester College of Music. There she gained her Associate of the Royal College of Organists and Associate of the Royal Manchester College of Music diplomas. She then won the Organ Scholarship to Girton College, Cambridge.
Mary has pursued a career as a teacher, most recently as Head of Music at St Bede’s College Manchester. Having gained her Fellowship and Choir-training diplomas from the Royal College of Organists, she has directed the music at a number of churches.
During her 14 years as Director of Music at Ecclesall Parish Church, Mary taught a number of organ pupils, most notably Robert Quinney, who is now Sub-Organist of Westminster Abbey.
Now retired from school teaching, Mary is a freelance organist, accompanist and teacher, and she is the organist and choir trainer at Christ Church Dore and Holy Trinity Millhouses.
