What Happened Next?

Following 6 months of coming together to rehearse every Friday evening, thirty-six men, from all walks of life and of all ages, were ready to perform on stage in the beautiful Buxton Opera House, alongside the Tideswell MVC, and stars from the West End productions of Les Miserables and Lion King, not to mention a newly formed youth chorus of twenty-six young people.

The theatre was packed, the atmosphere electric, the performance brilliant! What would happen next? What would happen to all this new-found talent?

The musical director and principal conductor of the Tideswell Male Voice Choir, Dennis Kay, had worked tirelessly to mould this group of men, who had simply responded to an invitation to “Come and Sing”, into a very accomplished male chorus. On top of this, these guys had become a team on their own, friendships had been formed, and Friday night had become their night, but this was now “the end” of what had been a wonderful project.

So what did happen next?

Three months on, Tideswell Male Voice Choir has welcomed into its ranks a total of twenty-eight new members, all of whom seem to be enjoying every moment of their new-found love.

Dennis comments, “I cannot say that the job of bringing together an established choir and twenty-eight new members is easy, but I am absolutely delighted, if not amazed, just how well things are going. The choir now boasts-sixty eight members and will very soon move in to its own, newly refurbished headquarters (see our New Headquarters page), and the future looks very bright. —

“Was this project worthwhile? Absolutely!”
