Virtual Admin Office
This page is a starting point for choirmen, music team and volunteers. It gives access to the part of the site that's for our own people. You need a valid user name and password to go any further.
The buttons on the left show what's available here. At the moment you can read the choir's constitution or the detailed comments of the judges at the 2009 Cornwall contest, or if you're interested you can see what I've been up to by reading the Editor's log.
All those interested in how the site is being received in the wild can view our monthly statistics by clicking the button. This will take you to a series of pages that were created by a program called Webalizer running on the web host, so they lack the presentation style of the rest of our site. Please make allowances for that. Also, any links to other pages or sites that appear in the tables will not work – you'll get a not-found error if you click on one.
We also have a table of practice tracks. These have been produced by recording some sessions at rehearsals, and although they're not of the highest musical or technical quality, the hope is that they'll be good enough for a newcomer to the piece to pick out his part. More tracks are expected as time goes by.
The database button will become useful later. This looks like being a long time into the future though. The problems arise from two sources: conversion of data between the proprietary format they currently exist in and the open SQL; and the devising of an interface layer between the stored SQL data and a Web page. Both can be done, but I'm unwilling to do either if it requires deeply specialised knowledge, because the next webmaster cannot be expected to have the required experience (I don't have much of it myself).
The other thing you can do from here is to manage your subscription to the Choir's e-mail discussion list. Clicking the button will take you to a page describing the use of the list. It also has a link to take you to the management page. Anyone is free to join the list; if you'd like someone to join, e-mail this link to them and tell them to fill in the Subscribing to TMVC section.
Finally, in the spirit of the last being first, we have a forum for members to exchange informal messages; it resembles the public guest book and is in frequent use.
