Our
Musical Director, Dennis Kay comes to us with a long and
distinguished history. Born in 1947, of
Salvationist parents, Dennis soon showed his interest in music and at the age of 8
performed a Tenor Horn Solo to a full audience at the Free Trade
Hall, Manchester.
Having progressed through the Junior Band and Junior Choir into
the Senior Sections of the Rochdale Corps of the Salvation Army, Dennis travelled
extensively with the Band and Songster Brigade. In 1978,
having been the deputy Songster Leader (Choir Master) for five
years, Dennis became Songster Leader of the Rochdale Songster
Brigade and his love of choral music really began. In 1982
Dennis founded the Debrose Choir in Rochdale, a choir which has
travelled extensively during the past 21 years. In 1993 Dennis
founded the Rochdale Borough Youth Choir and enjoyed 7 years as
its Musical Director.
He joined Tideswell as our
Musical Director in April 2005 and his expertise and enthusiasm
have already made their mark on our performances.
In this series of photos we can
see Dennis in action, variously conducting, humming, and
interacting with the choir in so many ways.
The energy and enthusiasm of a
good conductor is communicated to the choir, encouraging
everyone to give of their best.
